Student Poster Competition

The Gulf Coast Energy Network is pleased to announce the Student Research Poster Competition to be held during the Power Up 2009 Energy Conference & Expo at the Emerald Coast Conference Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, April 9th-11th 2009. This event is sponsored by Chevron Energy Solutions.

Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to participate in this dynamic and interactive event.
The Gulf Coast Energy Network will award $500 to the Best Undergraduate poster and $500 to the Best Graduate poster. A top prize of $1,000 will be awarded for the “Best of Show” poster.

JUST ADDED: A new category has just been added for high schools to complete in a seperate category. Students will compete for a $250 cash prize.

The Student Research Poster Competition has the following goals:
- To give undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to share their research ideas and results at Power Up 2009 Energy Conference & Expo in a forum that provides visibility for their work;
- To give students the opportunity to meet with and interact with Power Up 2009 Energy Conference & Expo conference delegates to share ideas, gain new insights, and understand possible practical applications;
- To give students an opportunity to sharpen their communication skills, including visual, organizational, oral, and aural modalities;
- To provide detailed feedback to students about their research and presentation, from a panel of distinguished judges from industry and academia;
- To recognize and reward outstanding students;

The following themes are acceptable for the Student Research Poster Competition:
-  Energy and Water Conservation Initiatives
- Alternative Energy and Renewable Fuels
- Sustainable Design and Low Impact Development

Participants must satisfy the following qualifications:
- Authors must be full-time students who are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees.
- Authors must register to attend the Power Up 2009 Energy Conference & Expo and be present to put-up and take-down the posters.
- Authors must be present during a scheduled “Exhibit Showing” (similar to a science fair) to answer questions and discuss their work.
- Each author may use up to a 45” x 45” space. If poster exceeds this space, it will be neither presented nor eligible for contest. (Authors are assigned display numbers prior to the conference to designate where presentations should be posted.)
- Visual aids that could clarify the results of your own work are encouraged. Do not, however, post your paper text. Graphics should be simple, colorful, well labeled and clear. All material should be readable from a distance of 2 meters.

Students must be present on April 9th to present their research and on April 10th for the Awards Presentation.

Scholarship funds are available in the form of complimentary accommodations and will be awarded on a first requested, first received basis.
